My Teaching Philosophy

As a future professor in the fine arts, I believe that art education is not just about developing an artist’s skill set but also about nurturing critical thinking, cultural awareness, and a personal voice. Art can be so powerful in helping students understand themselves and the world around them, and as an educator, my role is to guide them with purpose and care. Allowing students to feel safe taking risks, experimenting, and being unsuccessful. Also, allow growth to take place. My teaching approach will have students learn the material, processes, and foundational skills, with an emphasis on the “why” and the “how.” Allowing them to think deeply about their artistic choices and engage with understanding by developing the ability to articulate their ideas clearly. As an educator, I view myself as a future mentor and a lifelong learner. As the arts are constantly evolving, I am committed to fully understanding students’ new ideas, technologies, and practices. A goal that will inspire students to not only become skilled artists, but to be curious, explore, experiment, and also engage individuals who also value creativity as an essential part of life. One of the things that has taught me what I desire is motherhood, as teaching begins in the home with family. My daughter is my first student, and she has shown me ways I can improve as I teach my future students.
